May the Lord give you His Peace!
Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and provide what is needed, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you (Eph. 4:29).
Dear Parent/Guardians,
The world we live in is filled with negativity, violence of all kinds, harsh words and actions that pull us down and leave us feeling wiped out and beaten up.
As followers of Christ, we must act as he would with charity, compassion, and mercy. We should speak the truth and stand up for what is right but we should not do so with prejudice, bitterness and hatred. We are reminded by St. Paul not to use harmful words instead we should be building each other up not tearing down. If we take a compassionate stance towards each other, putting ourselves in the other’s shoes, we would help to build a kinder, gentler, Christian society in which to thrive and grow.
This has never been truer than in this time of instant social media posts. Many of us think that when we post online we have a kind of anonymity that frees us from guilt when we write or say hurtful and derogatory things to or about others. Nothing could be further from the truth. We certainly hurt ourselves by acting in this cruel way. But more to the point, others can be hurt beyond our imagining.
We should take St. Paul’s words to heart and say only the good things others need to hear thereby building up one another in charity so that when we are faced with the negativity of the world, we stand as a united front against the dark!
May the Lord give you His Peace!
