Healthy Children make better students!

NJ Family Care is a very important program to provide free or low cost insurance for children and their parents who aren't covered. More information can be found by logging on to www.njfamilycare.org.    Gov. Corzine has made a commitment for NJ to provide universal health insurance to children and affordable options for parents/guardians with the recent signing of new legislation.  This new law mandates that all children age 18 and under have health insurance. The requirement for health insurance coverage an be met in a variety of ways: (1) through a health insurance plan provided by your employer; (2) through a health insurance policy you purchase directly; and (3) through NJ Family Care which provides free or low cost insurance for children and their parents/guardians.  Enrollment in school insurance only does not satisfy this new mandate.  For more information about this program, please call NJ Family Care 1-800-701-0710.

Antibiotics. Will they really work when you REALLY need them?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is introducing
their first annual Get Smart About Antibiotics Week occurring October 6 - 10,
2008.  The NJ Department of Health and Senior Services (NJDHSS) is a
participating state partner to assist in the dissemination of messages
and materials in order to raise awareness about proper antibiotic use.
Inappropriate use, improper adherence and overprescribing are leading to
antibiotic resistance which is a serious and growing public health
threat.

The NJDHSS is encouraging all of our public health care partners and
community agencies to help spread the word.  The CDC has created a
variety of health education materials (see attached) and can be
printed  to an office printer.  Or you can visit the NJDHSS website at
   http://nj.gov/health/cd/mrsa/index.shtml

Please forward this message to your partner organizations.

If your family income falls within the following ranges, your children may be eligible for NJ FamilyCare.  If your family income is above this limit, you may still be able to get affordable health insurance for your children through the NJ FamilyCare Advantage program offered through Horizon NJ Health.
