Service Club

In an effort to assist the students in becoming good stewards, a Service Club is in the beginning stages of being formed.  Students in grades 5-8 will have the opportunity to work on various projects within the community.  Some of the activities which will be available are visiting the sick, doing lawn word for the elderly, and working on parish fund raisers.

Attention Students & Parents!

Our school nurse, Mrs. Petters, has a daughter-in-law who is serving in Iraq.  Her daughter-in-law expressed a real need for toiletries where she is stationed.  As part of our call to be of service to others, we are having a school-wide drive for toiletry products.  Some examples of what are needed are toilet paper or trial size toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo and soap products.  Please place your toiletries in a bag marked 6A or 6B and send them in by October 30th.

Your generosity will make a great difference for the wonderful men and women who are serving our country.

The Service Club has been working many hours this year from volunteer clothing drives, to prayer and listening, to speakers.  We thank them and the PTA officers who work with them for all their service to our school and community.

Congratulations and thank you to Claudia Cranmer and Aimee Orgera for donating their hair to “Locks of Love.”  Claudia had ten inches cut  and Aimee had nine inches cut by Mrs. Julie Cranmer.  Many people benefit from this program.

Ms. Sharon Goldie thanks everyone who generously donated bathing suits and towels for the underprivileged children that she works with in the summertime.  These donations are true treasures to the children and provide the opportunity for these children to swim at the summer camp.  Ms. Goldie would like you to know your generosity is greatly appreciated, and Ms. Goldie will accept donations up to the last day of school.

Thank you to all who participated in our clothing drive, working with the entire parish.  The Love to Service Club helped collect and move 6,500 pounds of clothes.  The clothes were sorted and distributed to local centers and abroad.  Clothes that were too worn were recycled for the fibers.  The effort realized $850 for the St. Vincent DePaul Society for their charitable work.

Thank you to Denise Mulranen for coordinating the blood drive on January 29.  We collected 84 pints of blood; our quota was 80!  Great job and thank you to all who donated; we had twenty-four first-time donors – a total of ninety-four people who came to donate.

A special thank you from Timmy O’S. of 5A.  Timmy thanks all those who helped with his Rosary collection for our troops.  He collected over 300 Rosaries.  Special thanks, also, to Mrs. Raspa who helped see that the troops received them.

A special thank you to an anonymous donor who donated new glassware, ring stands, triple balance beams with extra weights, graduated cylinders, buret clamps and twenty new microscopes.  We are extremely grateful!

Congratulations and Thank you to O. and A. Marchei who donated ten inches of their hair to “Locks of Love.”

We want to thank the members of the Service Club; both second grade classes made cards for sick people in our parish community.

The Service Club, grades 5 to 8 are invited on March 12 after school for a small retreat from 3:00 to 3:45pm.

Congratulations to all our new Fifth Grade altar servers (and one 7th Grade altar server) who were installed on Sunday, February 24 at 9:00am Mass. This was the largest altar server class in several years.
