- Kindergarten
will not receive report cards for the first semester.
Parents will have a
Conference.
The old trimester report will be used for the 2nd,
3rd and 4th report cards.
2. Grades 1 and 2: Major subjects
have “Progress Indicators” rather than “grades.”
They are: E = growth is self-motivated, exceeding
grade level expectations.
G = meets grade level expectations
P = progressing toward grade level expectations
I = initial stage of development, needs assistance.
- All
Grades: Program Code – These codes will
rarely be used:
M = modified
program – only used if a child is not using the same
program as
the rest of the class.
S = this will only be used for a subject when a group of
students are in an
advanced course.
E = enriched program (presently only advance math,
grades 5 – 8)
- Marking
Code: + =
strength
∙ =
area of need
√
= not assessed this marking period
- Comment
Code – two
categories:
1 – 7
Commendations
8 – 19 areas of improvement
May or may not be used:
If
a child’s program code is P or I you can expect to see a
comment
code of 8 – 19.
If a student receives an E you could see a code of 1 – 7.
- Grades
3 – 8 will
use number grades instead of letter grades.
- Minor
subjects grades 1 and 2:
E = Exceeds grade
level
P = pass grade
level expectation
F
= fails grade level
- Minor
subjects grades 3 – 8:
E = exceeds grade levels
S = satisfactory
NI = needs improvement
U
= unsatisfactory
The
philosophy of the new grading system is that academics are
not a competitive sport which unfortunately it has become.
I believe we need high expectations, but I also believe we
need to find the proper balance so that a child does
not hide grades or cheat to keep parents from being
upset.
Absent/Late:
There is a new category added to absent and late, that
is “Early Release.” This is to acknowledge all the
times students leave early, but are in school more than half
of the day, and whether or not the early release, lateness
and absenteeism impacts your child’s performance.
