Dar 6th-8th Grade Parents,
This note is to inform you of a few points regarding your
child's music classes at St. Margaret's. Grades 6-8
are required to have a composition book for taking notes in
music. This book and a pencil (NOT a pen) are to be
brought with them to each music class. Their music class
will be held in room B of the Ministry Center, with Grade 6
on Tuesdays, and grades 7 and 8 on Wednesdays. Your
child's music class will be at least 50% experiential
(active music making) each week, but the remainder of the
class will feature material on music history and notation,
per the curriculum standards of the Diocese of Camden.
Also, this year your child will be invited to join a
choir that will meet throughout the year on Monday
afternoons. This choir will learn various sacred and
secular songs suitable for performance at holidays and
possibly a spring concert. Also, the focus will be on
proper vocal technique and reading music and forming
harmonies in groups.
I thank you in advance for your encouragement and
facilitation with these aspects of our music education.
If you have any questions or comments, please let me know at
music@stmargarets-rs.org. Also, please use this email
address to express your child's desire for the choir.
Rehearsals will begin September 29th.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jennifer Drees
Dear 6th Grade Parents,
Last year as part of your child's music classes, he/she
participated in a mandatory recorder lesson which reinforced
the concepts of music notation and reading. Recorder
will not be offered during your child's music classes in 6th
grade, although it will be offered as a separate class in
which your child may participate. This class will be
called "Advanced Recorder", and is geared to the student who
achieved a green belt or higher by last year's end of year
evaluations. The frequency of this group will be
determined shortly, and your child will be responsible for
making up any missed work from their normally scheduled
class.
It is my hope your child will consider participation in
this opportunity. Studies have shown that instrumental music
participation positively impacts performance in other
subjects in school. If you have any questions or
comments, please let me know at
music@stmargarets-rs.org.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jennifer Drees
Dear 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Parents,
This year, your child will be encouraged to join a choir
that will provide music at First Friday liturgies at St.
Margaret's. Music Ministry is a wonderful way for your child
to not only learn and pray the Mass, but also gain valuable
experience in musicianship, including listening to others,
learning harmonies, and learning to cantor in front of
peers. I am looking for a solid group of ambitious
students to work with once a month or more, who would be
willing to learn mass music and simple harmonies to songs.
Please respond via email to
music@stmargarets-rs.org with any questions, or to sign
up your child/ren up for Mass Choir. I look forward to
working with your children.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jennifer Drees
